AI roleplay is collaborative storytelling. You describe a situation and play one part; the AI plays the other and responds in character. Done well, it feels like a scene from a show you are writing as you go. This guide covers the main kinds of roleplay, how to start one, and how to keep it from going flat.

Ordinary moments made interesting: a neighbour knocking on your door, a flatmate with a problem, a relative visiting. Low stakes, lots of character. Desi Avtar’s Chopra Uncle scene — the retired engineer next door with a theory about everything — is exactly this.
Someone is hiding something and you have to work it out, or the character is the one asking questions. In Sapna Lady Police, a sub-inspector notices the details you leave out.
Emotional scenes: a hospital waiting room, a friend in crisis, a new family member finding their place. Nurse Didi and Stepmother Shivani are built around moments like these.
Chaos played for laughs — a best friend with three crises before breakfast, or a neighbour whose Wi-Fi dies the night before a big meeting. Try Bestie Ruchika or Padosan Shakshi.
No preset scene at all: pick any character and invent the situation. A history storyteller can walk you through a battle; a spiritual guide can lead you up a mountain path. This works in any ordinary character chat.
Openings that give the character something to work with:
*knocks on your door at 11pm holding a toolbox* Sorry, your light is the only one on.— A situation plus a reason to talk.
I found an unsigned letter in the library book you lent me. Did you write it?— A small mystery.
*runs in, out of breath* The shaadi is in two hours and the caterer has vanished.— Stakes and a deadline.
Characters respond to the recent part of a conversation, not the whole story from the beginning. For long scenes, recap now and then — "(so far: we escaped the market and you still have the key)" — and the character will pick the thread back up. On the website, your chat is saved in the browser, so you can return to it on the same device.
Desi Avtar’s Roleplay section has twelve ready-made scenes, each with a setting, artwork and an opening line. You can browse all of them on the website; playing them happens in the Android app. Your own scenes, started in any ordinary chat, work in the browser too.
