Voice previews on the website

On the website you cannot place a call, but many characters have a short recorded voice sample you can play for free on the Calling screen. It is a good way to hear who you would be talking to before installing the app.

Who you can call

Not every character is on the calling roster. Friends and dost characters, the bhabhi and aunty characters, the regional-language set and the LGBTQ+ companions can be called. Family, teacher and historical characters are text-only.

Calls are short-turn, spoken conversations — characters answer in a sentence or a few words, the way people do on the phone — rather than long written replies read aloud.

Characters with an Indian voice

Talkie has a very wide range of characters. Desi Avtar is narrower on purpose: every character is Indian, hand-written, and talks the way people do in a Hindi or Hinglish chat.
