PolyBuzz is known for an enormous library of characters, many of them made by its users and drawn from anime, films and games. Desi Avtar works differently: a smaller, hand-written roster of Indian characters, each built to hold a conversation in Hindi, Hinglish or English. If you have been scrolling for a character who actually feels desi, here is how to find one.

On a platform where anyone can publish a character, the range is huge but quality varies, and finding a good one can take a while. Desi Avtar has fewer characters, but each one has a written personality, a backstory and a clear idea of how they talk. You browse by the role a character plays in your life rather than by fandom.
The whole roster is listed on the Indian AI characters directory, and how AI character chat works explains what a character’s personality actually does in a conversation.
College friends, besties and a set of dost characters who each play one type — the one who is always late, the one who knows everyone’s business, the one who fixes your laptop.
Maa, Papa, Didi, Bhaiya, grandparents and siblings — characters for the conversations that sound like home.
A Maths teacher, an English Ma’am, a history storyteller, spiritual guides, and figures such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Rani Lakshmibai you can ask about their lives. Replies are AI-generated, so check facts that matter.
A regional roster where each character speaks a different Indian language, from Punjabi and Bengali to Kannada, Malayalam and Assamese.
A small set of comic characters who talk in a rural Hindi dialect, for when you just want something silly.
If you mostly use character apps for roleplay, Desi Avtar’s Roleplay section has ready-made scenes: a setting, a situation and a character already in it. You can browse every scene on the website and play them in the Android app. The AI roleplay chat guide covers how to get the most from them.
